#Trashtag is a Social movement born from a deep connection to the land and a calling to do some good
The Trashtag challenge began in 2015 when Steven Reinhold pledged to pick up 100 pieces of litter on an upcoming road trip. The idea spread and trashtag cleanups spread around the world in the next years. Cleanups were held in cities, on mountains, along rivers and beaches, and throughout parks and forests. Some events even occurred underwater and another took place on Mount Everest!
Almost five years later, in 2019, Byron Roman snapped a photo of Drici Tani Younes standing triumphant after filling nine massive garbage bags in his personal challenge to clean up a local highway near his home in Algeria. This photo helped turn this social movement to do some good into a viral sensation.
Help us continue growing this community by adding #trashtag to your road trip instagrams and have some fun (of course) while you give back to the endless roads you wander.
What We've Achieved
We’ve built a global community of travelers who take the trashtag pledge as a way to give back to the natural lands and roads between them that fill their days and their minds with thoughts of adventure.
We’ve organized over 100 trashtag cleanup events around the world.
We are joining Cleanups.org to expand our ability to the reach and impact of the trashtag movement!
